Love Your Neighbor: Ames’ Faith Communities Celebrate the Divine in Each of Us

Faith communities planning, participating in, and supporting Pride Sunday:

Alex Davenport (he/him) is a Des Moines native and Iowa State alumnus (‘10, BA Religious Studies, BA Sociology, BLS Liberal Studies; ‘12 MS Sociology). A year ago, he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and joined an interfaith collective of people resisting the winter 2026 federal occupation in the Twin Cities known as Operation Metro Surge. Born into a multigenerational interfaith family, he started connecting more with Judaism in high school and returned to Judaism after the passing of his mother in 2021. Since moving to Minneapolis, he has found a religious home at a progressive Reform synagogue in South Minneapolis where he is a part of the immigrant justice committee and he continues the work of making Minnesota a more welcoming place for everyone.

    • Shuttle with Free Parking?

      • Park at and take the shuttle from Collegiate United Methodist Church and Wesley Foundation to the Memorial Union. ANY attendees are welcome to use this service. The shuttle will depart from the parking lot west of the church, between the large white building (called the Annex) and low building called the Lighthouse. You can park in that area and look for signs for where the shuttle will load and unload. The shuttle will make repeated trips between 9:15 and 10:15am, and repeated trips after worship ends, to return riders back to the parking lot. Riders need to be physically able to board and leave the bus without assistance.

    • Other Parking Options

      • Park in the MU parking ramp (paid), the East Campus Parking Deck (free on weekends), or on surrounding streets.

    • Take Public Transit via CyRide

  • Yes! Pride Sunday will be held on the second floor of the Memorial Union. The second floor is accessible from the parking ramp, and those who need accessible entrance can be dropped off at the north entrance of the MU near the Four Seasons Fountain. Volunteers will be available to help direct you to the Great Hall. Click here for building maps.

  • Yes! The link to watch online will be available closer to October 11. Because we want to protect the privacy of attendees, the area on camera will be restricted to the stage.

  • This is an interfaith event with opportunities for experiencing many kinds of religious/spiritual practice. We hope to create a space where all can bring their beliefs and practices (or none at all!) and be affirmed and celebrated.

  • We will collect an offering in support of Ames Pride.

  • Multiple stations for participation from different religious traditions will be offered, including communion offered by Christian ministers.

  • It's hard for us to imagine church without coffee and snacks! We will have coffee, lemonade, and dessert bars to enjoy together after the program.

  • We will have an all-ages space in one area of the room with different seating options, fidgets, and other tools and toys to help anyone with sensory needs feel more comfortable.
